Description
The 16G8598 is the IBM branded Tandberg TDC4120 Quarter inch 1.2GB internal SCSI QIC1000 tape drive.
Tandberg’s SLR3 is based on the highly reliable SLR technology platform that has gained industry recognition for its quality and reliability. The standard 5.25-inch half height form-factor allows easy installation and integration into most PC servers and workstations. It is backwards compatible to lower capacity tape drives such as SLR3, SLR2 and SLR1 allowing current and new SLR customers to migrate from lower to higher performance and capacity and protecting their investments.
Data tapes used by Tandberg in these early SLR series have a width of one quarter of an inch and have become known as QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge). Later tapes from SLR7 right up to the SLR140 actually had tapes with an 8mm width, although they were still referred to as QIC.
The Tandberg SLR3 half height tape drive is an early generation of the SLR family. It was manufactured by Tandberg for vendors including IBM, for use as standalone internal and external drives targetting the small business market. This drive was also known under the model TDC-4120 under the older naming convention.
The Tandberg SLR3 offers 1.2GB native capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 18MB per Min or 1.08GB per hour Native.
The Tandberg SLR3 does not support data compression.
The Tandberg SLR3 drive employs the same proven technology as previous Tandberg SLR products, and uses SLR3
media in order to achieve higher capacities. However, it maintains a small amount of backward compatibility and can read and write data to , SLR3 SLR2 and SLR1 tape media.
The Tandberg SLR3 was only available in 50pin Ultra LVD/SE interface versions.
