Description

The 270011-700 is the Exabyte Autopak 1×7 (also known as the EZ17) single drive 7 tape desktop autoloadercontaining the VXA2 80/160Gb SCSI tape drive.

VXA is a tape backup format originally created by Ecrix and later bought out by Exabyte. After the merger between Ecrix and Exabyte, VXA was produced by Exabyte Corporation.

The Exabyte VXA-2 half height tape drive is an late generation of the Exabyte 8mm family. It was manufactured by Exabyte for vendors including IBM, Sun and many others for use as standalone internal and external drives targetting both the enterprise as well as later the small business market. This drive format was manufactured in vast quantities and was at one point the most widely used format.

The VXA Advantage VXA technology is based on three complementary innovations: Discrete Packet Format (DPF), Variable Speed Operation (VSO), and OverScan Operation (OSO).

DPF enables data to be written and read in individually addressed packets, a technology similar to that already proven in the networking and Internet markets.

VSO saves time by continually adjusting tape speed to match the varying data throughput of the server, eliminating a common streaming tape problem known as "backhitching."

OSO is a technique for reading data packets independent of track shape or geometry. By overscanning data packets at variable tape speeds, VXA virtually guarantees data restore.

The Exabyte VXA-2 offers 80GB native capacity on a single 230M VXA tape at transfer speeds of up to 6MBps or 21.6GB per hour Native.

The Exabyte Exabyte VXA-2 does support data compression and uses the 230M VXA tape media.

The Exabyte VXA-2 offers 80GB native capacity or 160GB compressed capacity on a single 230M VXA tape at transfer speeds of up to 12MBps or 43GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 80GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 6MBps.

The Exabyte VXA-2 offers backwards read and write compatibility with VXA-1 formatted tapes.

The Exabyte VXA-2 was available in a 68pin Ultra2 LVD SCSI, IDE / ATAPI and firewire interface versions and in both internal and external configurations.
