C1537-04000 HP DDS3 12-24GB Internal /loader SCSI DAT Drive

Description

The C1537-00114 is the HP version of the DDS3 12/24Gb Internal SCSI DAT drive often used in the HP 24×6 tape autoloader.

The DDS / DAT (Digital Data Storage / Digital Audio Tape) format was initially developed by a collaboration between HP, Sony and Digital in 1991 and uses helical scanning for recording, the same process used by a video cassette recorder (VCR). If errors are present, the write heads rewrite the data.

DDS3 DAT tapes have a width of 3.81mm, known as 4mm, to give a compressed capacity of up to 24GB.

The HP DAT24 half height tape drive is the third generation in the DDS family and was manufactured by HP for vendors including Sun and IBM, for use as standalone internal and external drives targetting the small business market.

The DAT24 offers 12GB native capacity or 24GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 2MBps or 7.2GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 12GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 1MBps

The DAT24 drive employs the same technology as previous DAT products, and uses DAT24
media in order to achieve higher capacities. However, it maintains 2 generations of backward compatibility and can still read and write data to both DDS2 and DDS1 4mm tapes.

The HP DAT family offers HPs unique One-Button-Disaster-Recovery (OBDR) feature providing
customers with the ability to restore their systems with the touch of a single button.

The DAT24 was available in a common 50pin narrow SCSI2 LVD/SE and also a rare USB interface version.
