Description

The LIB-81 is the Sony Storstation 1U rackmount 8 tape autoloader for the AIT range of drives.

The AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) format was developed by Sony in 1996, specifically for computer applications. Compact and space-saving, with low power consumption.

The Sony LIB-81 tape drive autoloader is an 8 tape AIT autoloader in a 1U 19" rackmount configuration for the small and medium sized business market.

The Sony LIB-81 has capacity for 8 tapes which are loaded one at a time into the autoloader. The autoloader can operate in either sequential or random mode to control the loading of individual tapes. The LIB-81 can contain only one AIT drive.

Drive data transfer rate depends on the drive type installed – see below for maximum transfer rates.

The AIT1 version offers 35GB native capacity or 91GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 10.4MBps or 37 GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 35GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 4MBps.

The AIT2 version offers 50GB native capacity or 130GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 15.6MBps or 56 GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 50GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 6MBps.

The AIT3 version offers 100GB native capacity or 260GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 31.2MBps or 112 GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 100GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 12MBps.

The Sony LIB-81 was available in 68pin SCSI LVD/SE, interface versions and as a 1U 19" rackmount configuration.

Media Compatibility depends on the drive type installed but typically AIT drives will read and write to their own AIT media as well as all previous media types. (The AIT1-3 drives do dot read or write to any AIT Turbo media).
