Description

The SLR100-Ext is the Tandberg SLR100 Quarter inch 50/100GB external SCSI tape drive.

Tandberg’s SLR100 is based on the highly reliable SLR technology platform that has gained industry recognition for its quality and reliability. The standard 5.25-inch half height form-factor allows easy installation and integration into most PC servers and workstations. It is backwards compatible to lower capacity tape drives such as SLR100, SLR75, SLR60, SLR50, SLR40 and SLR7 allowing current and new SLR customers to migrate from lower to higher performance and capacity and protecting their investments.

Data tapes used by Tandberg in their early SLR series have a width of one quarter of an inch and have become known as QIC (Quarter Inch Cartridge). Later tapes from SLR7 right up to the SLR140 actually had tapes with an 8mm width, although they were still referred to as QIC.

The Tandberg SLR100 half height tape drive is the penultimate generation in the SLR family. It was manufactured by Tandberg for vendors including IBM, for use as standalone internal and external drives targetting the small business market.

The Tandberg SLR100 offers 50GB native capacity or 100GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 10MBps or 36GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 50GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 5MBps.

The Tandberg SLR100 has many features that are only found in more expensive tape drives such as “Auto Sense” which allows the SLR100 tape drive to receive data from the host at variable transfer rates for optimal performance on slower buses. The Tandberg SLR100 also supports in-line data compression which provides an effective compression method that maximises system performance. The media management utility built into the drive’s firmware monitors the drive and media performance and provides the user with value preventive maintenance information.

The Tandberg SLR100 drive employs the same proven technology as previous Tandberg SLR products, and uses SLR100
media in order to achieve higher capacities. However, it maintains backward compatibility and can still read and write data to SLR100, SLR75, SLR60, SLR50, SLR40 and read to SLR7, SLR24 and SLR32 tape media.

The Tandberg SLR100 was only available in 68pin Ultra LVD/SE interface versions.
