Description

The STU62001LW is the Certance (latterly Quantum) LTO1 full height external SCSI tape drive.

Linear Tape-Open (LTO) is a magnetic tape data storage technology originally developed in the late 1990s as an open standards alternative to the proprietary tape formats such as DLT that were available at the time. Since it was released, the LTO format has consistently been the best-selling tape format.

The Quantum LTO-1 Full-Height Tape Drive is a first generation model in the Quantum LTO family and was manufactured by Quantum / Certance for vendors including Dell, and several others for use in libraries, autoloaders and of course as standalone internal and external drives.

The LTO format is widely used in every area of tape backup and archive and is used by small businesses and enterprise customers alike due to its rugged reliability and open interchange format, meaning that a tape written in one manufacturers drive is also capable of being read in another manufacturers drive.

The Quantum LTO-1 Full-Height Tape Drive offers 200GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 32MBps or 115GB per hour. Native, the drive provides 100GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 16MBps or 57.6GB per hour.

The drive uses variable transfer speeds and matches the tape drive speed to that of the host and
optimizes data transfers, resulting in shorter backup times and
increased reliability.

The Quantum LTO-1 Full-Height Tape Drive employed new cutting edge features and technology that continued to be used in later generations of LTO drives in the Quantum family. Being first generation, the Quantum LTO-1 Full-Height Tape Drive uses LTO1
media in order to achieve a 200GB compressed capacity.

The Quantum LTO-1 Full-Height Tape Drive was available in 68pin Ultra 160 SCSI LVD and Fibre Channel, interface versions.
