Description

The TC-L32AX is the Quantum LTO3 half height internal SCSI tape drive.

Linear Tape-Open (LTO) is a magnetic tape data storage technology originally developed in the late 1990s as an open standards alternative to the proprietary tape formats such as DLT that were available at the time. Since it was released, the LTO format has consistently been the best-selling tape format.

The Quantum LTO-3 Half-Height Tape Drive is a third generation model in the Quantum LTO family and was manufactured by Quantum for vendors including Dell, and several others for use in libraries, autoloaders and of course as standalone internal and external drives.

The LTO format is widely used in every area of tape backup and archive and is used by small businesses and enterprise customers alike due to its rugged reliability and open interchange format, meaning that a tape written in one manufacturers drive is also capable of being read in another manufacturers drive.

The Quantum LTO-3 Half-Height Tape Drive offers 800GB compressed capacity on a single tape at transfer speeds of up to 90MBps or 324GB per hour (SAS and FC version manage slightly higher at 136MBps). Native, the drive provides 400GB of storage capacity with a transfer speed of 68MBps or 244GB per hour.

The drive uses variable transfer speeds and matches the tape drive speed to that of the host and
optimizes data transfers, resulting in shorter backup times and
increased reliability.

The Quantum LTO-3 Half-Height Tape Drive employs the same technology as previous Quantum LTO products, and uses LTO3
media in order to achieve higher capacities. However, as always with the LTO drive format, it maintains 2 generations of backward compatibility and can read and write data to LTO2 and LTO3 data cartridges and can still read from the original LTO1 data tapes.

The Quantum LTO-3 Half-Height Tape Drive was available in 68pin Ultra 160 SCSI LVD, SAS and Fibre interface versions.
